Meet Ricky

My name is Ricky Okhiria

I started Neighbourly Hands Canada to offer free, neighbourly support to seniors and individuals with disabilities in Calgary.

I created Neighbourly Hands Canada because I have a deep compassion, love, and respect for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Too often, I’ve seen people struggle with tasks that should be simple, moving things around, taking care of their yard, or managing daily chores. It breaks my heart to see this, and I felt called to do something about it.

I don’t have money to give, but I do have something just as valuable: my time and energy. That’s why this initiative is completely free. No payment, no tips, no gifts, just a neighbour helping neighbours. It’s my little way of making life easier for those who deserve comfort, dignity, and support. Nothing makes me happier than seeing you smile.

Please note: Neighbourly Hands Canada is a volunteer initiative, not a professional care service. I do not provide medical, nursing, or specialized caregiving tasks, only neighbourly help with everyday physical activities, offered freely and from the heart.

The Mission of Neighbourly Hands Canada

Lend a hand, share a smile. Whether it’s light yard work, tidying a space, or moving a few items, the goal is to make life a little easier, and to put a smile on someone’s face.

  • At least one trusted person must be present during visits.

  • Support is currently available only within Calgary areas accessible by public transit.

  • I may decline a request, or leave immediately, if safety or boundaries are not respected.

  • This is a volunteer initiative, no charge; tips, gifts, or payment are not required.

Looking Ahead

What began as a personal mission in Calgary has the potential to grow. With time and community support, I hope to expand Neighbourly Hands Canada to serve more cities across the country, more volunteers, more smiles, more neighbours helping neighbours.

Free help, from the heart
